An LGBTQ+ advocacy groups Lambda Legal and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation described the U.S. Supreme Court ruling banning transgender people from serving in the military as a major setback for transgender service members, saying it punishes people who have already proven they meet military standards and serve honourably. Though legal challenges against it continue,
the ruling on Tuesday allowed President Donald Trump’s policy banning LGBTQ in the military to move forward
The group in their statement said, “Transgender individuals meet the same standards and demonstrate the same values as all who serve. We remain steadfast in our belief that this ban violates constitutional guarantees of equal protection and will ultimately be struck down.
The court’s liberal justices dissented, but the ruling still marks a major win for Trump, who has made limiting transgender rights a key part of his second-term agenda and often criticised judges who blocked his policies. The decision, which passed narrowly, could lead to thousands of service members being removed from duty.
The White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt in a social media post, described the ruling as a “massive victory,” saying that Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth were working to build a military focused on “readiness and lethality. In his reaction posted online, Hegseth described the ruling with a phrase: “No More Trans @ DoD.”
