Senator Seriake Dickson, representing Bayelsa West under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), has called for calm and restraint among the people and youths of Rivers State and the Ijaw Nation across Nigeria’s Niger Delta region. In a statement following his visit to Governor Siminalaye Fubara of Rivers State, Senator Dickson emphasized the importance of resisting provocation and incitement to violence during a period of heightened political tension.
The Senator commended Governor Fubara for his commitment to maintaining peace despite the challenges faced by the state. He also praised the people of Rivers State for their resilience and adherence to peace and order amidst the ongoing political developments.
Senator Dickson urged all stakeholders, including Retired Vice Admiral Ibol-Ete Ibas, the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, to prioritize actions that foster confidence and facilitate the resolution of the crisis. He appealed to President Bola Tinubu to encourage dialogue and cooperation among key figures, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and Governor Fubara, to achieve a swift and amicable resolution.
Highlighting the broader implications for the Niger Delta region and Nigeria as a whole, Senator Dickson called on leaders at both state and national levels to actively contribute to resolving the issues. He stressed that the Ijaw Nation remains committed to peaceful coexistence and is not in conflict with the President or the APC-led Federal Government.
