Bill Ackman, a renowned billionaire investor and a previous supporter of Trump, has criticized the Trump administration’s recent imposition of tariffs on the US allies and enemies. He faulted Trump’s approach to trade, describing it as launching a “global economic war”’
Ackman issued the stark warning that the United States is hurtling toward a self-inflicted “economic nuclear winter” due to President Donald Trump’s ongoing tariff policies.
In his statement shared on the social media platform X, Ackman emphasized that these sweeping levies are undermining global confidence in the U.S. as a reliable trading partner, a key factor that could further destabilize the economy.
In his words, “Business is a confidence game,” Ackman stated. He further said, “The president is losing the confidence of business leaders around the globe,” warning that the long-term consequences of Trump’s trade war would be especially harmful to low-income Americans already struggling economically, which according to him, undermines the very citizens who supported the president.
It could be recalled that Ackman made his support for Trump publicly known after he was shot during a campaign rally saying, “I am going to formally endorse @realDonaldTrump,” Ackman posted on social media platform X. “I assure you that I have made this decision carefully, rationally, and by relying on as much empirical data as possible”.
