As officers, soldiers and their families joined Muslim faithfuls across the country to mark the Eid-El-Fitr celebration 2025, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede has enjoined troops to pray and continue to work hard for Nigeria’s progress and prosperity, noting that the Nation’s security and stability depends on our collective efforts.
The Army Chief stated this yesterday, 31 March 2025 during the COAS Luncheon with troops of 81 Division Nigerian Army (NA) at the 65 Battalion Parade Ground, Bonny Cantonment Victoria Island, Lagos.
Lieutenant General Oluyede said Eid-El-Fitr is not only a time for celebration but a period to strengthen bonds as one people, regardless of ethnic and religious background. He added that the nation’s stability and security depend on our collective resolve and cooperation.
Represented by the Commander Corps of Signals (CCS), Major General Nosakhare Ugbo, the COAS appreciated troops for their unwavering commitment and dedication to duty.
He noted that while many Nigerians are celebrating with their families, troops remained at their duty posts across various theatres of operations to safeguard the nation’s territorial integrity.
He added that the sacrifices and commitment of troops to duty have ensured the security and stability of the country. He therefore commended troops for their patriotism, resilience, courage, and professionalism while discharging their constitutional responsibilities.
The COAS reminded troops of the vital role discipline, professionalism, and inter-agency cooperation play in NA operations, which, according to him, are crucial in tackling the contemporary security challenges confronting the nation.
Also speaking during the event, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 81 Division NA, Major General Farouk Mijinyawa stated that the Luncheon was organized in line with the Command Philosophy of the COAS in particular, sound administration which contributes to the
effective running of the NA.
General Mijinyawa commended troops of the Division for their remarkable performance in the First Quarter of Year 2025. He stated that many successes were recorded within the period, which have ensured peace and security within the Division’s Area of Responsibility (AOR).
Speaking further, he enjoined troops to be disciplined and always discharge their duties diligently.
He equally urged troops to refrain from acts that are capable of denting the good image of the Division in particular and the NA in general.
The GOC urged all commanders to sustain the good efforts by maintaining robust patrols and other operational activities to ensure that 81 Division AOR remains safe and secured.
The event was attended by commanders, Staff Officers, senior officers, and soldiers within 81 Division’s AOR.
Highlights of the Luncheon include serving of dishes to the wounded soldiers by the Special Guest of Honour alongside the GOC and other senior officers. There was also the presentation of souvenirs and group photographs.
