Abuja Nigeria. Governor Udom Emmanuel, who governed Akwa Ibom state from 2015 to 2023 has been invited by EFCC for questioning. He arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
The former governor, however, was allegedly arrested on arrival at the anti-graft headquarters.
Our source, on grounds of anonymity, revealed that Udom is being questioned for alleged money laundering, fund diversion, and financial mismanagement to the tune of over N700 billion.
The former governor was alleged to have received N3 trillion from the Federation Account over eight years but left behind a debt profile of N500 billion and unpaid ongoing projects worth N300 billion. He was also alleged to be unable to account for N700 billion.
The whistle was said to have been blown by a civil society organisation called the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking which petitioned the EFCC, prompting the investigation.
