Lagos, Nigeria, – The Chief of Military Intelligence (Army), Maj Gen TB Ugiagbe, has lauded the Commandant of the Nigerian Army Intelligence School (NAIS), Brig Gen KN Nwoko, for significant strides in both academic and infrastructural development at the institution. During the West African Social Activities (WASA) celebration at Tego Barracks in Apapa, Lagos, Brig Gen HG Hassan, Commander of the 81 Military Intelligence Brigade, represented the CMI (A) and highlighted the transformation of NAIS into a premier learning institution under Brig Gen Nwoko’s leadership.
Maj Gen Ugiagbe noted that NAIS successfully adhered to all 2024 training directives from Army Headquarters (AHQ). Key achievements under Brig Gen Nwoko included curriculum enhancements, infrastructure upgrades, improved training aids, and a focus on hands-on technical intelligence training. Noteworthy initiatives also included driving lessons, security agency tours, night lectures/training, and modern equipment procurement. The CMI (A) also expressed gratitude to the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen OO Oluyede, for his unwavering support of NAIS and the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps (NAIC).
Brig Gen Nwoko, in his welcome address, thanked the Special Guest of Honour (SGOH), senior officers, retired personnel, and distinguished guests for their attendance. He underscored the importance of WASA in fostering socialization, harmony, and camaraderie among officers, soldiers, and their families.
The Commandant provided a comprehensive overview of NAIS’s 2024 accomplishments, including the planned relocation from Tego Barracks, Apapa, to Muhammadu Buhari Cantonment, Giri, the upgrading of computer and technical laboratories, solar inverter installations, enhanced language training, modern equipment procurement, and the introduction of Artificial Intelligence training. Other milestones encompassed sporting activity improvements, electronic smart board use in classrooms, enhanced telephone battle exercises, psychological operations, intelligence analysis, Intelligence Preparation of the Battlefield, and free internet provision for staff and students. Efforts to improve staff welfare aligned with the COAS’s command philosophy. Brig Gen Nwoko also thanked Lt Gen Oluyede and the CMI(A) for their ongoing support and guidance.
The event saw attendance from representatives of the General Officer Commanding 81 Division, Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Finance and Administration, Nigerian Army School of Signals, Commander of the Command Finance Office, other senior military officers, heads of sister security agencies, traditional rulers, and NAIS’s friends and families.
Highlights included cultural displays, comedy performances, tug-of-war competitions, rifle stripping and assembly contests, awards to deserving soldiers, and the presentation of gifts to the SGOH and other dignitaries. The evening concluded with a retreat ceremony and bonfire.
