U.S. President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he is likely to impose additional sanctions on Russia if President Vladimir Putin refuses to negotiate an end to the ongoing war in Ukraine. While Trump did not provide specifics on the potential sanctions, he emphasized that the United States has already imposed significant sanctions on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Trump also mentioned that his administration is considering the possibility of sending weapons to Ukraine and expressed his belief that the European Union should increase its support for the country. “We’re talking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, and we will be speaking with President Putin very soon,” Trump stated. “We’re going to look at it.”
Additionally, Trump revealed that he had urged Chinese President Xi Jinping during a phone call to intervene and help resolve the Ukraine conflict. “He’s not done very much on that. He’s got a lot of power, like we have a lot of power. I said, ‘You ought to get it settled.’ We did discuss it,” Trump said.
