On Monday, Nigeria’s National Assembly summoned Finance Minister Wale Edun and Budget Minister Abubakar Bagudu to address concerns about the government’s commitment to diversifying the economy away from crude oil dependency. The Senate and House of Representatives Joint Committees on Solid Minerals expressed dissatisfaction with the Ministry of Solid Minerals’ funding in the 2025 budget. Minister of Solid Minerals Dele Alake revealed his struggles to secure adequate funding, initially receiving only N5 billion, later increased to N9 billion. The committees postponed the ministry’s budget defense to hear from the ministers and the Director-General of the Budget Office, Tanimu Yakubu, before making further decisions.
