Nigeria experienced another nationwide blackout on Wednesday following the 12th collapse of its national power grid this year. Reports indicate that from January to November 2024, the grid has failed 11 times, with three of those collapses occurring within a single week in October, leading to widespread power outages and public outcry.
The official Twitter account of Nigeria’s National Grid confirmed the latest collapse, which happened at approximately 2:09 PM local time on Wednesday. The tweet stated, “The major grid setback has occurred and the restoration is to commence,” marking a historic and troubling 12 collapses in a single year.
The recurrent power grid failures have sparked significant concern and reactions from Nigerians, who are facing frequent and prolonged blackouts.
