Inquisitive about the allegation on July 18 by Mr. Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), that local refineries, including the Dangote refinery, were producing inferior products compared to imported products, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas led the House of Representatives delegation to Dangote Refinery, located in the Lekki Free Trade Zone, at the early hours on Saturday.
The owner, President of Dangote Group and Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote led the refinery’s top executives to welcome the delegate to the refinery and conducted them round. The delegation included Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu and Hon. Ikenga Ugochinyere.
The lawmakers toured the refinery, which processes 650,000 barrels of oil daily, including stops at the crude oil extraction point, the product loading bay, and the fertilizer plant. This visit is the second by federal lawmakers to the refinery in two months and comes as the refinery prepares to start supplying petrol next month.
Senate President, Godswill Akpabio led a Senate tour of the refinery in June, praising the project and offering support. Recently, Dangote Refinery has been facing challenges from international oil companies trying to restrict its access to crude oil while the local regulatory agency further accused the company of inferior products.
