The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) recently announced on Monday that Heritage Bank’s operating license has been revoked while the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) assured customers they would receive up to ₦5 million in insured deposits.
Many customers of the Bank, both rich and poor has been worried about their money, including a one time winner of the Big Brother Naija Reality show season 4, who says she had over ₦100 million in the bank.
Eke shared her fears on X, saying she had been hoping for a solution since the news broke on June 3rd. According to her message on IG, “I really don’t know how to react about this…I have been hoping for the best…thinking there’s a way out,” she said.
Some of her fans who were concerned quickly offered their support and asking questions. A fan mentioned, “Queen Mercy Eke CBN said they will attend to people with 5M or lower first before they attend to people with multiple millions but it may take time.” Eke responded, “That’s the problem. How can they pay 5 million from someone’s millions?” She also confirmed having over 100M with them, saying, “……. I have above 100m with them.”
When a fan asked the BBNaija winner why she chose Heritage Bank over more popular banks, she explained, “That was the bank that sponsored BBN during my set, for them to pay our money we were advised to open an account with them… stupid me went ahead and funded the account…don’t worry I’m full of regrets right now.”
