RENEWED HOPE : FEDERAL GOVERNMENT APPROVED SALARY INCREMENT FOR WORKERS

In line with the renewed hope mantra of the ruling All Progressive Congress Party and in his bid to make life comfortable for Nigerians. President Ahmed Bola Tinubu GCFR led Federal Government of Nigeria has approved an increase in salary for Federal Government workers. The salary increase is between 25% and 35% for Civil Servants on the remaining six Consolidated Salary Structures. According to a statement signed by the Head of Press, National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Mr Emmanuel Njoku clarified that the increases will take effect from 1st January 2024.

The remaining 6 Consolidated Salary Structure includes the Consolidated Public Service Salary Structure (CONPSS), Consolidated Research and Allied Institutions Salary Structure (CONRAISS), Consolidated Police Salary Structure (CONPOSS), Consolidated Para-military Salary Structure (CONPASS), Consolidated Intelligence Community Salary Structure (CONICCS) and Consolidated Armed Forces Salary Structure (CONAFSS).

Before now, some segments of the federal government workers had experienced this new increase. Those in the Tertiary Education and Health Sectors had already received their increases which involved Consolidated Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTISS) and Consolidated University Academic Salary Structure (CONUASS) for Universities.

For academic and non-academic workers in the Polytechnics and Colleges of Education, it involved the Consolidated Tertiary Educational Institutions Salary Structure (CONTEDISS) and Consolidated Polytechnics and Colleges of Education Academic Staff Salary Structure (CONPCASS). At the same time, the Health Sector also profited through the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and Consolidated Health Sector Salary Structure (CONHESS).
The Federal Government has also sanctioned increases In pension of between 20% and 28% for pensioners on the Defined Benefits Scheme in respect to the above-mentioned six consolidated salary structures with effect from 1st January 2024.
