The Federal Government has released the full list of Nigerians and some corporate organizations financing terrorism in Nigeria. Most of these organisations are Bureau De Change operators that deal in foreign currency.

The list released by the Federal Government includes Tukur Mamu, a close ally of Islamic cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi. It could be recalled that the Kaduna-based Muslim cleric, Sheikh Gumi recently offered to dialogue with bandits who abducted about 287 schoolchildren from Kuriga Government Secondary and LEA Primary Schools in the Chikun Local Government Area of the state. The popular cleric also advised Tinubu not to repeat the mistake made by former President Muhammadu Buhari, who refused to dialogue with bandits.

The Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, had earlier said those financing terrorism include nine individuals and six Bureau De Change operators. This was contained in its report titled, ‘Identification of Persons and Organizations released on March 18, 2024’.

Thereafter, a post released on X on Monday by one Bashir Ahmad, a Media Aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, reads: “The Federal Government has released names and BDCs funding terrorists in Nigeria. We hope those individuals will face the necessary legal consequences for their actions.” He listed the names of the suspects to include one Tukur Mamu, a close associate of Sheikh Gumi.

Recalled, Mamu, is facing trial over his alleged relationship with terrorists who attacked the Kaduna-bound train in 2022. He was arrested on September 6, 2022, by Interpol in Cairo, Egypt, on behalf of the Nigerian Government.

See list of individuals below:
1. Tukur Mamu
2. Yusuf Ghazali
3. Muhammad Sani
4. Abubakar Muhammad
5. Sallamudeen Hassan
6. Adamu Ishak
7. Hassana-Oyiza Isah
8. Abdulkareem Musa
9. Umar Abdullahi

The six BDCs and firms include:

10. West and East Africa General Trading Company Limited
11. Settings Bureau De Change Ltd
12. G. Side General Enterprises
13. Desert Exchange Ventures Limited
14. Eagle Square General Trading Company Limited
15. Alfa Exchange BDC

It could also be recalled that in an article written by Mr Fani Kayode, published by Vanguard Newspapers on October 29, 2023, Fani described Sheikh Gumi as a Cleric of Blood and a Face of Hate.
According to Fani, he said, “Gumi is a man that delights & revels in carnage, butchery, bloodshed, strife, war & perpetual & never-ending conflict. He is also the face of hate & the full embodiment & living manifestation of the spirit of ISIS.”
Fani accused Gumi of being a cleric representing, Daesh, ISWAP, ISIS, Al Shabab, Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Hamas & Boko Haram.
He, however, thank God that Gumi does not represent the Muslim community in Nigeria, saying, “He does not represent reasonable, rational, peace-loving, pious and serious-minded Northern Muslim leaders like the Sultan of Sokoto, the Emir of Kano, the Shehu of Borno, Sheik Dahiru Bauchi, Professor Isa Pantami, Senator Ahmed Sani Yerima, Sheik Muhammad Sani Yahaya Jingir Jos, and so many others that we know and whose integrity and commitment to the peace and unity of Nigeria we can vouch for”
