There was rowdiness on the floor of the, upper chamber (Senate) of the National Assembly this afternoon as lawmakers move a motion to suspend ( Step down) the screening of former Minister of Labour and Productivity and Spokesman for Tinubu Shettima Presidential Campaign, Mr Festus Keyamo (SAN).
Senator Darlington Nwokocha, representing Abia Central senatorial district, moved for the motion to suspend the screening of the ministerial nominee.
The point of order was seconded by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, representing Abia-South Senatorial District of Abia state.
Abaribe, who referenced Order 88 (b), moved that the Senate step down the ministerial screening “proceeding the time the national assembly has the power to look into the issues around the ministerial nominee and his ministry.”
The nominee was accused by Senator Darligton of an outstanding disobedience to summons by the Senate and House of Representatives in the past. While the Senate President wanted to affirm the point of order, the numbers of senators who opposed the motion were higher than those who supported it which led to disquiet in the chamber.
The senate therefore dissolved into a closed session to resolve the issues surrounding the uproar.
Keyamo, who arrived the Chamber with full confidence forgot to give his educational background but moved straight to his achievements was however shocked by the hostile response he received by some of the senators. He however remained calm throughout the uproar.
