The newly appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Major General Taoreed Lagbaja, has assumed office as the 23rd Army Chief with a pledge to discharge his responsibilities with fairness to all. His statement followed the outgoing COAS statement when he took over command saying, “ I hereby restate my commitment to lead you with sincerity, transparency and accountability at all times. I want to assure you that I will run the Army fairly and justly, giving equal opportunity to all, based on individual competencies and character.” Yahaya surely did.
Lagbaja received the baton from him, the 22nd Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya (rtd), during a well attended ceremony by Army high commands held at the Army Headquarters in Abuja today, Friday 23 June 2023.
Lagbaja, who vowed to reward hard work under his watch promised to improve on the legacies of his predecessors of a proficient and professional Nigeria Army.
Earlier, the immediate-past Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Yahaya said he was leaving the Nigeria Army better than he met it. Gen. Yahaya added that the Nigeria Army made remarkable successes in the fight against insecurity under his command. “Our adversaries are in disarray across all theatres of operations”, he boasted.
While charging officers and men of the Nigeria Army to remain resolute, apolitical and professional in the discharge of their duties, he urged them to support the new COAS to achieve a nation free of internal threats.
Congratulations to the duo.
